Neurodiverse couples are relationships where partners have different neurotypes, for example, one partner may be neurotypical and one partner may be Autistic, or where both partners are neurodistinct / neurodivergent - ADHD, Autism, or a combination of these or other neurodivergences. Sometimes folks are aware of their neurodivergence, sometimes a person or their partner will have their suspicions, and sometimes it's yet to be discovered!
What might your relationship look like?
Partners may feel some or many of the following:
- one partner often feels like they're nagging and the other feels like they can never get it right
- there seem to be struggles with follow-through or feeling reliable
- you seem to misunderstand each other often, and remember conversations very differently
- trust, chores, or responsibilities are a hot button in your relationship
- you feel like you're living separate lives
- one or both people seem highly particular or sensitive in several ways
- you each struggle to get your experiences validated in the relationship
- there's a high level of reactivity in your relationship (getting defensive, angry, shutting down)
- you notice resentment or a loss of sense of self or reality in your relationship
- you feel lonely and misunderstood
Introducing the ND Compass!
Developed by Dr. Jill Corvelli of the Neurodiverse Partners Institute, the ND Compass is a modality of couples therapy which is tailored to the unique needs of neurodiverse relationships. I have been rigorously trained, tested, and certified to work in this model.
We will work through 8 phases that will include core processes of education; creating a day to day life that works for your relationship; and developing your relationship to a place of confidence, healthy autonomy, and healthy interconnection.
You will leave this window of relationship work with a playbook of skills and tools to support your ongoing connection and success.
Limitation of Scope of Practice:
As part of our work together I can support you in furthering your investigation about possible neurodivergence including sharing clinically reviewed self assessments, discussing assessment protocols, and results of self assessments.
I am not able to provide an official diagnosis, or provide official documentation about your neurodistinction for the purposes of work, school, or accessibility supports.
How to Book:
Your first step is to schedule a free TeleHealth consult with me by adding yourself to the waitlist in my calendar (see button below) for some days and times that work for you and your partner. I will add you into my availability from there.
Once you've decided to work with me we will schedule weekly appointments for 10 weeks, deciding together whether to book 50 or 75 minute sessions (this will depend on each person's emotional stamina, your schedule, and the current needs of your relationship).
If you have any further questions that you need answered prior to booking a consult, email info@ravencoastwellness.com
I offer this work as a practitioner trained in this modality, as well as being a person with lived experience of neurodivergence and neurodiverse partnership.
