Somatic Sex Therapy is a healing and trauma-informed practice that brings the body into the conversation through embodiment tools and techniques of somatic experiencing.
Using a variety of tools, skills, and an in-depth understanding of the nervous system, you are supported on your journey to embodied, joyful, and pleasurable lives.
There are many obstacles and challenges that can affect our sexuality. In my practice I understand that sexuality is not simply a physical act, but an inherent and holistic part of who we are and how we relate.
Clients visit my practice to address healing the large and small traumas that are incurred from life in a body-shaming and sex-negative society such as:
reconnecting with body & sexuality after trauma
body shame & insecurity
body awareness & boundary-setting
I support people on their journeys to discovering their pleasure potential in their lives and relationships through
sex education such as:
learning the anatomy of arousal
asking for what you want
gaining sexual confidence and competence
overcoming sexual boredom (alone or in relationship with others)
bringing new experiences into a relationship
couples work
I also work with people who have experience or diagnoses such as:
pelvic / genital pain
anorgasmia (difficulty achieving orgasm)
scar tissue (breast reduction / augmentation, gender confirmation, c-section, trauma etc.)
vulvodynia & vaginismus
effects of the natal window (ttc, pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, abortion, body changes, libido changes)
dissociation & numbness (physical / emotional)
While I do believe that diagnosis of sexual issues (PME, ED, Anorgasmia, Anhedonia etc) can provide validation and can reflect due diligence in seeking medical input to issues impacting sexuality, I do not subscribe to a 'dysfunction' model and instead believe that we must first identify and challenge the paradigms that suggest we are broken before we decide we need to be "fixed". I believe that taking a new approach that focuses on building the life, relationship, and sexuality that nourishes you is the most healing method for addressing sexual "dysfunctions".
